This is a senior software engineering job to lead the development of a software product, including front-end, and back-end APIs and infrastructure as code. The engineering lead is a clear communicator and strong collaborator.  

The engineering lead understands and can design and code in front-end technologies and frameworks such as HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, Angular, Ember or React, as well as having a fundamental understanding of back-end API programming languages and technologies such as Go, Java, Python and TypeScript, Microservices, API Gateways, data caching, circuit breakers, authorization frameworks, and integration with external APIs.

The engineering lead should also be familiar with infrastructure as code to support feature development teams following DevSecOps best practices.  The engineering lead will work with, and lead, infrastructure and feature development teams.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain high-quality backend software components and services, ensuring functionality, performance, and scalability
  • Collaborate with frontend engineers, product managers, and other stakeholders to define requirements and ensure alignment between technical solutions and business needs
  • Write clean, well-structured, and maintainable code, adhering to established coding standards and best practices
  • Develop and implement APIs and data models, facilitating seamless integration with frontend applications and third-party systems
  • Participate in code and design reviews, providing constructive feedback to peers and identifying potential risks or areas for improvement
  • Debug and resolve software defects, proactively identifying and addressing potential issues before they impact users
  • Optimize software performance and resource usage, identifying and addressing bottlenecks and inefficiencies in backend systems
  • Create and maintain comprehensive technical documentation, including API specifications, data models, and design documentation
  • Actively participate in Agile ceremonies, such as stand-ups, sprint planning, and retrospectives, ensuring effective communication and collaboration across the team
  • Assist in the estimation, prioritization, and planning of development tasks, ensuring projects are delivered on time and within budget
  • Continuously evaluate and recommend new backend technologies, frameworks, and tools, helping to drive innovation and keep the team up-to-date with industry trends
  • Engage in ongoing professional development to stay current with industry best practices, and share knowledge and insights with the team as appropriate
  • Implement and maintain CI/CD pipelines, containerization technologies, and Infrastructure as Code tools in alignment with DevSecOps principles to streamline the deployment and management of microservices and APIs on AWS.
  • Develop and deploy monitoring, logging, and performance optimization tools to ensure observability and resilience of microservices and APIs, while adhering to DevSecOps standards.
  • Participate in regular security reviews, risk assessments, and vulnerability management activities to proactively identify and remediate potential threats within the microservices, APIs, and AWS infrastructure.
  • Assist in the implementation and maintenance of security, compliance, and governance policies within the AWS environment to ensure adherence to industry standards and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, or a related field.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in software development.
  • Strong experience with one or more programming languages, such as Java, Go, Python, or Typescript.
  • Proficient understanding of software design patterns, data structures, and algorithms.
  • Professional experience with Drupal 8/9/10 and its API ecosystem.
  • Strong proficiency in PHP, OOP best practices, and the Symfony framework.
  • Expertise in the latest Drupal back-end development (Drupal 8+), including custom module, services, plugin, and configuration management.
  • Familiarity with Drupal’s rendering, caching, Twig theming, translation module (TGMT), and third-party providers like Smartling.
  • Experience with Drupal hosting partners such as Acquia and Pantheon.
  • Proficiency in MySQL and Drupal database API.
  • Expertise in one or more back-end frameworks like SpringBoot.
  • Proficient in infrastructure-as-code tools, such as Terraform, CDK, and CloudFormation.
  • Experience with Jenkins CI/CD; familiarity with Cloudbees Jenkins is preferred.
  • Solid grasp of containerization principles, particularly Docker.
  • Proficiency with artifact management using JFrog Artifactory.
  • Familiarity with AWS services such as EC2, Lambda, ECS/Fargate, RDS, DynamoDB, EventBridge, CloudFront, S3, ApiGateway, CloudWatch, and WAF.
  • Skilled in Bash scripting for task automation and Git versioning workflows.
  • Experience with feature flag management, accessibility, and SEO tuning.
  • Experience working at enterprise scale across multiple tech stacks and teams.
  • Experience with Agile development methodologies.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical capabilities.
  • Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively within a team.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • AWS certifications are a plus.

  • Familiarity with frontend React frameworks/applications such as Gatsby, NextJS
  • Akamai services such as NetStorage, CDN
  • Jenkins CI/CD tooling and processes
  • Experience with design systems and reusable design components/processes
